Why Wars Look Like Children Fighting With Each Other

After watching the Afghanistan fiasco unfold, I can not help but conclude a similarity between the wars that world leaders fight with terrorists or other powers and the fights that children have amongst them.

I don't know how the America-Taliban war started or why it started, was it something of America's making that it is paying the price for now, hell I don't even know how the world politics work.

But if you look from my perspective - an unfiltered, innocent, non-scholar perspective- it seems like two children are fighting with each other over a toy or a video game.

For eg., few children are playing soccer and they start arguing with each other over foul play. The argument soon turns into a heated exchange which soon turns into a fight.

Similar is the case with grown-ups who are apparently 'world leaders'. They also start fighting with each other over trivial matters.

From childhood to adulthood we have matured a bit but not so much. In childhood, the things over which we fought and the things with which we fought were different from the things over which and with which these leaders and terrorists fight now.

But the essence is the same - argument, dissonance, fight. It's just that the toys and games have changed.

I used to fight with my younger brother with pillows over who will play the video game first. Now, these world leaders 'argue' and 'fight' with guns, bombs, missiles, tanks over chunks of land or as they call it - their 'sovereign territory'.

The game is the same. It's just that the ways have changed.

I said, 'This toy is mine'.
He replied, 'No, it is mine'.

These countries say, 'This natural resource is ours'.
The others refute, ' No, this is ours'.

When I fought with my brother, I used to tell my brother:

I found the 'prized object' first, so it is mine.
As it is supposed to happen, he challenged the claim.
This obviously resulted in a fight,
But I had more might,
So, in the end, the 'prized object' was mine.

One of our neighboring countries say:

We found and stepped on this land first, so this territory is ours.
As it is supposed to happen, we challenged the claim.
This will obviously result in a fight,
And whoever shows more might will win the fight.

We have not really grown up, have we?

China has a 9.597 million km² area of land and it claims right on neighboring lands too. Suppose it gets to 10 million km². What then?

Will it surpass Finland as the happiest country in the world, or will it surpass Norway on Human Development Index, or will it surpass Denmark as the safest country in the world?

Yes, if it conquers strategically important regions, it will become richer and more powerful but is that it? Will it lead to the prosperity and happiness of the masses? I doubt.

What can we, as normal, concerned human beings, do? Just watch them destroy and annihilate this paradise earth is? Do you feel enraged, agitated by this - innocent people losing their lives because of the whims and fancies of the so-called 'leaders'?

But, what can we do?

I guess, we can raise our voices.
