Become Better But Not At The Expense of Making Someone Worse

I see all these countries trying to become a superpower or the 'greatest' or most powerful country in the world.

China wants to become a superpower and the 'greatest' country in the world. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that. But the question is: At what cost?

Suppose, China is a student in this class 'Earth' and this student wants to become the best or the strongest in the class. What's wrong in that? Nothing. As long as it is not coming at the expense of others getting hurt or worse or weaker in the process.

See, there are two ways to become better - one is by improving yourself and the other is by degrading the other person by devious means.

So, as long as any country wants to become the strongest employing the former strategy, there's nothing wrong. Where they go wrong is when they suppress the rise of neighbours.

We've got to accept that we are living in a highly interconnected world.

Suppose, in the next 20 years, China does become a superpower of the world but at the expense of ravaging, annihilating all the other countries in the world in the process. Who or what will it dominate over?

That's what these aspiring superpowers are doing to the Mother Earth in their quest to attain greatness. Just like a mother will be deeply pained to see one of her sons fighting with others to become the best, so is this mother Earth getting hurt and beaten in the process.

The manpower, resources, & research that is being used to develop nuclear arsenals and building armies could have been used to find innovative, life-affirming, & sustainable solutions to the problems we, as a humanity, are facing currently.

But NO! We want to be the greatest!

Funnily, we don't even know what is meant by 'Greatest'!
