An Ode to 'Feel So Different' Song
I myself feel so different from when I first heard the 'Feel So Different' song by Sinead O'Connor at 21 to now listening to it again at 32!
This song evoked a lot of emotions in me:
First, let's talk about the length of the song. Before listening to this song, I had listened to two songs, newly released, from Billie Eilish. They were approx. three and a half minutes long - very radio-friendly, chart-topper material, and exactly to the liking of impatient listeners these days.
They were good no doubt but still, I got the feeling that they were crafted with the listener in mind and cater to the requirement of a hit pop song.
Now, let's hop to 'Feel So Different'. It's approx. six and a half minutes long and mind you, it's the first song on the album, with very simple, easy-to-understand words in it. But yet, the song is so soul-stirring, thought-provoking, and poignant, worthy of an evergreen classic.
Second thing - about my own transformation from 21 to 32! I feel so different. I used to be dismissive of the power of words, though I still used it, mostly they were musings just to satiate my inner turmoil and not to bring about a change or touch anyone's life.
And now! I totally believe in the potential of words to make this world, or some people living in it, somewhat better.
Simple lines in the song such as
The whole time I'd never seen
All I'd need was inside me
Now, I feel so different.
It's so provocative, enlightening, and inspiring at the same time and one thing is certain that she didn't write these lines to entertain people!
This is what I aim to achieve through my writing - to touch someone's heart or kindle a spark in someone's soul.
