A Heartfelt Letter To Parents From Children

We didn't tell you or demand you to make so many sacrifices or compromises. If I am not wrong, you did it out of your love for us, didn't you? And you probably gave us birth out of your own free will, if you believe in such a thing, or due to societal obligations, or your parents forced you

Dear Parents,

We didn't tell you or demand you to give us birth.

We didn't tell you or demand you to make so many sacrifices or compromises. If I am not wrong, you did it out of your love for us, didn't you?

And you probably gave us birth out of your own free will, if you believe in such a thing, or due to societal obligations, or your parents forced you or your thinking forced you but we certainly didn't.

So, you can not possibly expect us to return the 'favor' because you loved us without expecting anything in return. That's true love, isn't it?

You can not force us to be grateful to you. You won't get true respect that way, oh No!  Be our friend and we will respect you.

In fact, you should be grateful to us that we gave you a glimpse of God, a sip of bliss, and a taste of your own childhood. We reintroduced you to innocence, sanity, playfulness.

And in return, you 'corrupted' us by imposing your life-suppressing philosophy, dull education, and maddening view of religion. And still, you want us to be grateful to you, really?!

Well, actually, we still are but not for the reasons you might imagine.

And we also hate you from a corner in our heart and you can sense that, can't you?

But we understand that you are not to be blamed for this. You just did to us what was done to you.

You just did to us what was done to you.

And that's why we are not waking up. Because we have been imitating all our lives with closed mind and old eyes.

But I am not going to follow suit
I am going a different route

And I am ready to walk alone
And I hope and pray that I get the courage to do this on my own

Many people will call me selfish
Many people will call me mad
Some people will love me for this
Some people will make me look bad

But I know they can't be blamed for all of that
I have to, nonetheless, walk the path

And this should neither make me happy nor sad.

In the end, we just want to request you to open your eyes and help us open ours.
